MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Four Mountaineers posted career days to lead the West Virginia University volleyball team past TCU, 3-2, snapping a three-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum. WVU earned the Big 12 victory in set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 23-25 and 15-11.
The win pushes the Mountaineers to 12-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs move to 12-7 overall and 2-3 in league action. It marked just the second time this season West Virginia has gone to five sets as they previously fell to No. 2 Texas 3-2 on September 24.
“I think they just put some heart out on the court,” said coach Jill Kramer. “And we hadn’t seen that this week. It was good to see that and I told them it was good to have them back. They were fighting and playing hard, and we needed to do that to get back on track.”
Jordan Anderson recorded a career-best 36 kills, after hitting her previous record of 24 in the third set. In addition to hitting for a .516 clip, she just missed a double-double with nine digs. Anderson also added a block assist and an ace to the score sheet.

Hannah Shreve had six block assists, tying her career best, as WVU recorded 9.0 team blocks in the match. In addition to Anderson and Attea, Gianna Gotterba and Anna Panagiotakopoulos finished in double figure digs with 11 and 10, respectively. Gotterba was also responsible for a pair of aces, as was Shreve.

Hitting .233 with 17 kills, the Mountaineers couldn’t take set one despite out-blocking the Horned Frogs. After playing to a 7-7 tie, TCU scored three straight to take a 10-7 advantage before taking three more in a row to lead 19-14 on a service ace. Three straight from WVU, including back-to-back kills by Anderson, made it a one-point match with TCU still leading 20-19. Anderson and Sackett found the court while Wells and Attea teamed for a block to tie the set at 22-22 before back-to-back kills from TCU gave the Horned Frogs the 25-23 win.
Anderson hit for a .750 clip with nine kills to guide the Mountaineers in set two. A pair of Anderson kills gave West Virginia the 10-7 lead before the Mountaineers pushed it to 13-8 on a kill by Shreve, forcing a TCU timeout. Anderson tallied three kills with Attea adding another to give WVU the 22-17 advantage and forcing TCU to burn another timeout. Wells and Anderson each put one through the pins to cap the set as WVU took a 25-20 win to tie the match 1-1.
Shreve recorded a pair of block assists and Anderson hit .440 with eight more kills to lead Mountaineers in set three. TCU took a 4-1 lead before WVU took three of four points in taking an 8-7 lead on a kill from Anderson. Sample scored on consecutive service aces before a block by Attea and Shreve put West Virginia in front 12-8 and forced TCU into a timeout. Three straight errors from the Mountaineers allowed TCU to tie the set 12-12, before more miscues gave the Horned Frogs a 15-13 lead. A pair of kills each from Wells and Anderson tied the stanza at 18-18. The Mountaineers then rattled our four straight points to take the set, 25-20, on a kill by Sackett as they grabbed a 2-1 lead in the match.
Hitting .278 with 16 kills, West Virginia couldn’t maintain the momentum as they fell in set four. A solid start gave the Mountaineers a 7-4 lead on a block from Wells and Attea before they pushed out to a 17-13 advantage on a kill by Attea. TCU scored three in a row to cut the deficit to one at 19-18, then tied the set 22-22 on back-to-back kills. Anderson put down a kill to give WVU a 23-22 lead, but the Horned Frogs took three straight points in earning the 25-23 win to tie the match 2-2.
