Tennis Set For Liberty

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team travels to Charleston, W.Va., to battle Liberty at the Charleston Indoor Racquet Club on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers (0-1) are coming off a 4-3 loss to Akron on Jan. 17 in their spring opener. Freshmen Oana Manole and Kaja Mrgole won won their doubles match, 6-3, and each tallied victories in singles.
Sophomore Vivian Tsui scored WVU's third point against Akron with a 6-3, 6-3, win over the Zips' Shannon Newnes.
The Flames (2-0) opened their spring with a doubleheader on Jan. 18 against Morehead State and North Carolina Central. Liberty came away with 6-1 victories in both contests. Liberty's top doubles team of Rebekah Jenkins and Maria Khval won both its matches, while the duos of Valerie Thong and Brittany Yang, Annisha Domenech and Mariely Hassey, and Belen Rivera and Nicola Wellman each won one match.
In singles, the Flames are a combined 10-2 this spring, with Khval, Hassey and Rivera each sporting a 2-0 record.
Last time the two met, the Mountaineers defeated Liberty, 5-2. WVU is 2-1 all-time against the Flames.
