WVU to Hold Gold-Blue Tilt

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team kicks off its 2013 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 24, with a Gold-Blue intrasquad scrimmage at the WVU Coliseum at 1 p.m.
“Our team has had a productive preseason due to our players’ hard work in the spring and summer,” says WVU coach Jill Kramer. “I know they are looking forward to showcasing what they have been working on since last fall.
“Unlike soccer and basketball, we do not get a chance for exhibition games in the preseason in volleyball,” Kramer says. “I would think those competitions would be very helpful in seeing where you are at in the big scheme of things, but right now, our players are doing a great job of pushing one another in the gym every day.”
The Mountaineers return all of their starters from their inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference, and welcome five newcomers to the 2013 roster.
Admission is free to Saturday’s match and open to the public. Coach Kramer and staff will hold a free kid’s clinic, open to kids in eighth grade or below, immediately following the match.
“We are excited to be hosting a free kid’s clinic following the match and are looking forward to seeing some new, young faces in our gym,” Kramer says.
WVU officially begins its season on Aug. 31 with the Blue/Gold Invitational in Toledo, Ohio, where the Mountaineers will oppose Eastern Illinois, Loyola-Chicago and Toledo.
