WVU Shutout in Game Two

AUSTIN, Texas – The WVU baseball team continued its game two struggles with a 12-0 loss to Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday afternoon.
WVU (22-18, 5-6 Big 12) was hampered by two errors and managed just four hits, while Texas (21-16, 5-9 Big 12) recorded 14 hits with no errors.
After not allowing an earned run in his last three starts, senior right-hander Dan Dierdorff (2-5) took the loss. Dierdorff pitched into the fifth inning, allowing eight runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings. Dierdorff struck out one with one walk.
WVU sophomore designated hitter Justin Fox batted 1-for-1 with two walks to lead the offense.
Texas starter Dillon Peters (4-2) held the Mountaineer hitters in check, surrendering just four hits in 7.0 innings. The left-hander struck out six and walked three.
The Longhorns put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth to score their first runs of the series. Ty Marlow hit a single off the leg of Dierdorff that deflected into center field to score two runs and bring the Texas advantage to 3-0. Collin Shaw and Brooks Marlow followed it up with an RBI double and single, respectively, to extend the lead to 5-0.
Ty Marlow notched two more RBIs to make it 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run double to left center field. The lead grew to 10-0 in the fifth with a three-run homer to left field by Jacob Felts.
Texas ended the scoring at 12-0, adding one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
C.J. Hinojosa and Mark Payton each recorded three hits, while Ty Marlow and Felts had four RBIs apiece. Five Longhorn hitters had multi-hit performances.
Tomorrow’s rubber match is set for a 1 p.m., and will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network. The games can be heard on the affiliates of the Mountaineer Sports Network with the Morgantown affiliate WAJR 1440 AM serving as the flagship station.
