Track Finishes Day One at Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed its first day of competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational, on Friday in Princeton, N.J.
Heather Adams led the way with a personal-best mark of 54.55 meters in the hammer throw. The mark is the second-best throw in program history in the hammer throw.
Adams was also the top Mountaineer in the discus throw with a fifth-place finish and a mark of 44.40 meters. Karissa Knabenshue followed with a 10th-place finish (39.25m), while Brittney Thomas came in 12th place (38.09m).
Sarah Martinelli was the only Mountaineer to compete on the track on Friday in the 1,500-meter run elite heat. Martinelli came in 12th place with a time of 4:30.11.
Competition at Weaver Stadium resumes at noon tomorrow with the 4x100-meter relay and the shot put. Live results can be found at tumeytiming.com, with final results and a recap available on WVUsports.com after the completion of the competition.
