OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The West Virginia University rowing team wrapped up competition at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational Regatta on the Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Four WVU crews raced in round three of the regatta against Buffalo and Georgetown on Sunday.
The varsity 8+ ‘A’ crew consisting of Rachelle Purych, Kelly Kramer, Hilary Meale, Mollie Rosen, Danielle Widecrantz, Jessica Hurlbert, Karen Verwey, Courtney Schrand and coxswain Ellen Shular crossed the finish line in 7:09.96. Their time was the best of the day for the Mountaineers and was good enough for a third place finish.
The 8+ ‘B’ crew of Rachel Cokeley, Lisa Deklau, Mary Ignatiadis, Elizabeth Kantak, Elizabeth Duarte, Tamyra Roberts, Mindy Sharon, Bethany Sapen and coxswain Morgan Leach secured a second place finish in their heat with a time of 7:17.56.
The 8+ ‘c’ crew of Kaitlyn Eason, Danika Rencken, Kimberlie May, Kendra Welker, Mary Cook, Angelica Fell, Addie Dulaney, Allyson Pytlak and coxswain Sarah Dodd rounded out the 8+ competition for the Mountaineers with a first place finish and time of 8:02.10 in their heat.
The varsity 4+ crew of Allison Coates, Enya Messersmith, Caroline Mullins, Susannah Hartlove and coxswain Alexandra Basil wrapped up competition for WVU with a time of 8:22.84, good enough for second place.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, April 6 when they will race against Alabama and Central Florida on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
