A total of 60 student-athletes earned either first team or second team distinctions.
“Our entire team has done an outstanding job managing their studies both on the road and at home. The support our student-athletes get from our academic advisor, Jillian Weston, their tutors, professors, and mentors is second to none,” says coach Jill Kramer. “Our staff and players have gone to great lengths to make certain that our rigorous travel schedule in the Big 12 does not keep us from being successful in the classroom.”
Senior Liz Gulick, as well as sophomores Nikki Attea, Anna Panagiotakopoulos and Hannah Sackett all earned Academic All-Big12 First Team distinctions.
Gulick is an elementary education major, Attea is majoring in computer science, Panagiotakopoulos’ major is finance and Sackett is a political science major.
Gulick was one of four first-team members with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average. This marks the second-straight season Gulick has been named to the league’s academic First Team
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Sophomore Brittany Sample, an industrial engineering major, and junior Evyn McCoy, a biology major, earned second team recognitions.
“Our players take great pride in their success in the classroom, building relationships with their professors and being the best they can be in every area of their lives,” Kramer says. “It's nice to see them get rewarded for it."
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Kansas State led all teams with nine total honorees, including seven first team selections. Kansas posted the most first team honorees with eight. A total of 51 members comprise the first team, while nine members make up the second team.
