Men’s Soccer Continues Homestand

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will try and snap a four-game losing streak when it hosts Northern Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
West Virginia (3-5-1) will be playing its second Mid-American Conference match of the season after dropping a 1-0 contest to No. 10 Akron last Sunday in Morgantown. Akron led the shot advantage, 14-10, as well as taking nine corner kicks to WVU’s two.
Junior Andy Bevin and sophomore Majed Osman are tied for the team lead with 12 points apiece. Both players have four goals and four assists. Senior Craig Stephens is second on the team with two goals, while sophomore Jamie Merriam ranks No. 3 in assists with three.
The Mountaineers will be looking for revenge after getting shutout twice by Northern Illinois, once in the regular season and once in the MAC Tournament, last season. WVU held the shot advantage (23-15), shots on-goal advantage (8-6) and corner kick advantage (10-5) during those two matches.
Northern Illinois (3-6-0) will be playing its first conference match of the season and is coming off a 2-0 loss last Saturday at Michigan State.
Forwards Isaac Kannah and James Stevenson, who each have three goals this season, lead the Huskies scoring attack. Stevenson also has one assist for a team-leading seven points.
Andrew Glaeser has started seven matches in net for Northern Illinois, allowing eight goals with 30 saves for a 1.12 goals-against average.
Eric Luzzi is in his fifth season as the coach of Northern Illinois.
