Track Completes Second Day at Penn State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed competition at the PSU National Invitational in State College, Pa., on Saturday.
Freshman Kelly Williams was the only Mountaineer to snag a first-place finish by taking top honors in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:11.88. Senior Sydney Cummings also had a strong performance by matching her career-best in the high jump with a leap of 1.76 meters that was good enough for a third-place finish.
Competing in the invitational mile, junior Sarah Martinelli posted a career-best time of 4:49.44 for a 10th-place finish, while senior Aubrey Moskal posted an eighth-place finish with a time of 5:02.48 in another heat of the mile.
In their first time competing in the 600-meter run, juniors Allison Tyree and Arielle Gaither finished in third and fifth place, respectively. Also seeing action for the Mountaineers, freshmen Peyton Hampson and Alyssa Scherich posted times of 1:17.51 and 1:20.22, respectively, in the 500-meter run.
WVU will stay on the road for its next competition as it travels to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invitational on Feb. 1-2.
