Meet Mia Gunter
August 11, 2012 08:57 AM | General
With the 2012 season just around the corner, WVUsports.com will get to know the 12 newcomers on the West Virginia women’s soccer team. Today’s edition features Edmonton, Alberta, native Mia Gunter.
What attracted you to play soccer at West Virginia University?
It was a special feeling when I stepped foot on campus and talked with the coaches. I was smiling the whole time on my visit. It just felt right.
Were you aware of previous student-athletes from Canada that have played at WVU?
Yes, it was comforting knowing that other Canadians had come through the program. And they had success on and off the field, despite being somewhat pretty far away.
What other schools did you consider?
I look at a lot of schools across the U.S. Distance wasn’t a factor for me, so I looked at programs in California and all the way down in Texas. None of them had what West Virginia could offer me.
How much did you know about West Virginia women’s soccer?
I really didn’t have much of a summer. I spent time having my last moments at home with my friends, and obviously trained hard to get ready for preseason.
What are your expectations for your rookie season?
I want to work hard and hopefully get into the starting lineup. I would like to contribute right away and in whatever role the coaches have for me.
