A Big 12 Celebration

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host a cookout for all Mountaineer student-athletes, coaches and staff in celebration of its membership into the Big 12 Conference on Sunday, July 1 at 5 p.m.
“July 1, 2012 is an important and historic day for our University,” Director of Athletics," Oliver Luck said. “We wanted to do something special for our student-athletes as we join the Big 12 Conference, and bringing them together along with our coaches and staff will be a great way to recognize our membership into a new league. Everyone has been looking forward to this day and Sunday will be a time to enjoy it as an entire department.”
July 1 is the official start date for WVU’s membership into the 10-team league. Along with West Virginia, TCU will also become an official member on July 1.
In its 17th season, the Big 12 Conference also welcomes a new commissioner in Bob Bowlsby, who became the league’s fourth commissioner on May 4, 2012. Bowlsby will be in attendance at WVU’s cookout celebration held at Touchdown Terrace. The event is closed to the public.
