MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising senior Petra Zublasing, as well as former Mountaineers Nicco Campriani and Eric Uptagrafft, represented West Virginia University with solid showings in the final days at the Milan International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup.
Campriani, a native of Florence, Italy, followed up his air rifle victory on May 15 with a second-place showing in the men’s 50m rifle 3 position on May 17. The 2011 NCAA air rifle champion shot 1172 (389 prone, 393 standing, 390 kneeling) in the open relay and 98.7 in the finals for a 1270.7 total. The first athlete among all sports to earn an Olympic quota place for the 2012 London Summer Games, Campriani has scored three top three finishes in the last two World Cups.
Three-time All-American and 2012 NCAA air rifle champion Zublasing, a native of Appiano, Italy, and also shooting for the Italian National Team, earned a 21st-place finish in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position on May 18. She shot 576 (193 prone, 192 standing, 191 kneeling).
Uptagrafft, shooting for the United States, finished fifth in the men’s 50m rifle prone on May 20 with a 699.0 total, scoring 596 in the open relay and 103.0 in the finals.
Competition at the Munich ISSF World Cup, the last World Cup of the year, opens tomorrow with the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle.
