Rifle: Mountaineers Ready for Two World Cups

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University will be represented by four shooters at the next two International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cups.
The Milan ISSF World Cup will open tomorrow with the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle competitions. The Munich ISSF World Cup, the last world cup of the year, will open on May 23.
Rising senior All-American Petra Zublasing, the reigning NCAA air rifle champion, is scheduled to represent Italy in both competitions. Former Mountaineer and Italian teammate Nicco Campriani also will shoot in Milan and Munich.
Rising sophomore Meelis Kiisk, along with Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond, will join the duo in Munich. Kiisk will shoot for Estonia, while Hammond will represent Great Britain.
Zublasing last competed at the London ISSF World Cup three weeks ago. The Appiano, Italy, native earned her best finish in the women’s rifle 3 position and placed 22nd overall with a 573 total.
Campriani and Hammond also competed in London. Campriani, a native of Florence, Italy, won the men’s rifle 3 position on April 28 with a score of 1278.2; he shot a relay score of 1179 and 99.2 in the finals. Hammond, an Aberdeen, Scotland, native, just missed the event finals and finished in ninth place with a score of 1165.
Zublasing and Campriani have already earned the right to represent Italy at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Hammond is still shooting for a spot on the Great Britain Team.
