MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two first-half goals set the tone in leading the West Virginia women’s soccer team past visiting Eastern Kentucky, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Kate Schwindel broke a 1-1 match with a beautiful finish late in the first half to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 lead at the break.
“Schwindel has been playing really well and scored a great goal for us in the first half,” said coach Nikki Izzo-Brown.
The Mountaineers added a second-half score and finished with 11 corner kicks in the team’s third contest of the spring season.
“We were dangerous on set pieces and I thought we moved the ball well for good portions of the game,” added Izzo-Brown. “We also were able to get Bry (McCarthy) to push forward and create some offense from the back line.”
WVU returns to action with a pair of matches on April 21 against Ohio State and Pitt in Columbus, Ohio.
