MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team leaves Saturday, March 24, for a nine-day spring break tour of Spain. The Mountaineers will spend March 24-April 1 in Madrid and Barcelona, playing three games while exploring new cultures.
“The experience and knowledge gained from our international competitions will be invaluable in our development,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “This trip will serve as a great learning environment for our ladies to continue their development individually and as a team. The training and team bonding while in Spain will serve as a good start for our team as we head into the Big 12 Conference.”
West Virginia will play its first match on March 26 against FC Torrejon, followed by a contest on March 27 against Rayo Vallecano – the reigning Spanish women’s champions. The final match will take place in Barcelona on March 30 against RCD Espanyol – the current Spanish Cup championship team.
The team will attend one professional game and have planned guided tours to Real Madrid’s Bernebeu Stadium and FC Barcelona’s Nou Camp Stadium.
