Gymnastics: WVU Nationally Ranked on Vault, Floor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – With its regular-season schedule complete, the West Virginia University gymnastics team enters the postseason nationally ranked on floor and vault, according to today’s GymInfo Poll.
WVU (14-5, 5-1 EAGL) is ranked No. 21 on floor for the third straight week. Boosted by a season-best road score of 49.025, scored in the team’s 196.85-194.9 loss at No. 10 LSU on March 16, the Mountaineers own a floor regional qualifying score (RQS) of 49.015, their lone RQS of 49.0 or better.
The Mountaineers dropped one spot to No. 22 (48.98) on vault. The team’s overall RQS moved to 194.955, but the squad continues to rank No. 29 in the nation.
Sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer is ranked No. 33 in the all-around with a 39.165 RQS. She also ranks No. 42 (9.84) on beam. Junior Alaska Richardson moved up two spots to No. 40 (9.855) on floor.
WVU dropped to No. 4 on vault and No. 6 on bars in the Southeast region. The Mountaineers continue to rank No. 4 overall, and No. 3 on floor and No. 5 on beam.
Four Mountaineers own regional vault rankings, with Sloanhoffer setting the pace at No. 11 (9.855). Richardson continues to rank No. 15 (9.835), while junior Chelsea Goldschrafe ranks No. 21 (9.81) and senior Tina Maloney No. 25 (9.78).
Richardson owns the team’s top individual regional ranking, as the Dayton, Ohio, native moved up one spot to No. 5 on floor. Junior Kaylyn Millick ranks No. 18 (9.815), while sophomore Makenzie Bristol checks in at No. 25 (9.79).
Millick paces the team’s bars squad at No. 14 (9.82). Sloanhoffer ranks No. 19 (9.8), and senior Nicole Roach is ranked No. 23 (9.775).
Sloanhoffer and Millick rank No. 10 and No. 20 (9.77), respectively, on beam, with sophomore Amanda Carpenter joining the ranks at No. 24 (9.745). The duo also ranks No. 6 and No. 11 (38.92), respectively, in the all-around. Maloney checks in at No. 15 (38.62) in the all-around.
WVU will enter the 2012 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship ranked No. 2. NC State, nationally ranked No. 20, continues to own the league’s top spot. The Mountaineers maintain their No. 1 floor and No. 4 beam rankings. The squad dropped to No. 2 on vault and No. 4 on bars.
