MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team earned its seventh consecutive national ranking today, as the squad dropped one spot to No. 24 in the GymInfo Poll.
The Mountaineers (10-4, 5-1 EAGL) have been nationally ranked every week since the first poll of the season was released on Jan. 16.
Today’s rankings are the first of the year based on regional qualifying score (RQS), with the Mountaineers boasting a 194.67 RQS.
Qualification for regional competition is based on a team’s and an all-around competitor’s six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be from away meets. To obtain the RQS, the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. Teams and gymnasts that have not acquired enough scores for an RQS are not ranked.
WVU moved up in the vault and floor rankings and checks in at No. 21 (48.895) and No. 20 (48.925), respectively. The squad dropped out of the beam rankings. Of note, the Mountaineers moved up nine spots in the bars rankings and are just outside the Top 25 at No. 26 (48.675).
Sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer moved up 10 spots and ranks No. 21 (39.165) in the all-around. The Cornwall, N.Y., native has won five all-around competitions this season, including the last three, and has scored 39.0-plus in all but one meet. Sloanhoffer also reenters the beam and vault rankings at No. 38 (9.82) and No. 48 (9.835), respectively.
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 in the Southeast region; North Carolina did not meet the RQS standards and was not ranked. WVU moved up to No. 3 on bars and floor and held at No. 4 on vault and beam.
Sloanhoffer is ranked on every event, including a No. 5 all-around ranking. She also ranks No. 10 on beam, No. 11 on vault, No. 12 (9.795) on bars and No. 14 (9.775) on floor.
All six competing gymnasts are regionally ranked on floor, with junior Alaska Richardson pacing the team at No. 6 (9.815). Sophomore Makenzie Bristol is tied with Sloanhoffer at No. 14 (9.775), while juniors Kaylyn Millick and Chelsea Goldschrafe rank No. 17 (9.765) and No. 20 (9.735), respectively, and senior Tina Maloney checks in at No. 22 (9.72).
Four Mountaineers rank on vault. Richardson follows Sloanhoffer at No. 15 (9.805), and Maloney and Goldschrafe rank No. 19 (9.765) and No. 23 (9.735), respectively.

Though the Mountaineers continue to trail NC State, ranked No. 20 nationally, in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) standings, the squad does rank No. 1 on floor and bars; prior to this week, the Mountaineers had not ranked higher than No. 5 on bars all season. WVU also ranks No. 2 on vault and No. 3 on beam.

WVU takes on two ranked teams this week, as the squad travels to No. 19 Denver for a quad-meet with No. 13 Missouri and Western Michigan on Saturday, March 3. The meet, the team’s third straight on the road, is set for a 6 p.m. MT start inside Hamilton Gymnasium.
