MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins has advanced to the finals of the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge.
After four weeks of voting, Huggins won the East Region and joins BYU coach Dave Rose (West), Missouri coach Frank Haith (South) and Ohio State coach Thad Matta (Midwest) in the finals of the “Inspiration is Contagious” contest.
The winner of the contest gets $100,000 for his charity. Huggins’ charity is the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Fund, and the funds will go directly to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in Morgantown.
The Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Fund, named in honor of Bob Huggins’ late mother who died of colon cancer in 2003, was started to aid in cancer research and to help families around the state of West Virginia dealing with cancer.
To vote, go to ESPN.com/Infiniti. Fans can vote once a day and voting ends at 11:59 a.m. on Thursday, March 8. The winner will be announced on March 9.
“Mountaineer fans are the greatest,” says Huggins. “But I want them to realize that this event isn’t a popularity contest. When they vote for me, they’ll be voting to find new and better treatments for cancer and bringing hope to those afflicted with the disease.”
