CHICAGO – WVU senior guard Truck Bryant’s game-winning 3 vs. Providence on Feb. 5 is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced today. Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college basketball plays will be nominated as the GEICO Play of the Year. Each week’s winner will be determined by fan voting through the official Facebook page (facebook.com/BestofCollegeBasketball). The eight finalists will compete in a week-long competition to determine the GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced during the GEICO Best of College Basketball special which airs March 25 at 1 p.m. ET. on CBS.
In addition to recognizing the season’s top plays, the one-hour CBS special will relive the season’s greatest moments, players and traditions. The show reviews the GEICO Best of 2012 Basketball Tour, an interactive fan experience that visits 10 marquee games throughout the basketball season.
WVU had to call on heroics from Bryant twice in its match-up vs. Big East rival Providence and he was more than up to the task. Having already knocked down the shot which sent the game to overtime, Bryant dribbled up court with the game tied at 84 in overtime and less than 10 seconds remaining. Bryant went behind his back to make use of a screen from big man Deniz Kilichi and drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key with only three seconds on the clock. The Mountaineers earned a big road win, defeating Providence 87-84. Bryant’s game-winning 3-pointer is competing against three other plays from week eight, including a monster block by Arkansas’ Hunter Mickelson, a put-back dunk by Southeast Missouri State’s Leon Powell and a chase-down block by Central Florida’s Isaiah Sykes.
