Gymnastics: Sloanhoffer Snags League Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) co-Gymnast of the Week.
The Cornwall, N.Y., native shares the honor with North Carolina junior Elizabeth Durkac.
Sloanhoffer’s award, her third of the season and the 12th league honor of her career, follows her first place, 39.15 all-around showing in the No. 23 Mountaineers’ (10-3, 5-0 EAGL) first-place finish at the Maryland quad-meet on Feb. 18. WVU scored 194.8, its top road score of the season, and defeated EAGL foes UMD (194.55) and Rutgers (191.7), and William & Mary (191.175).
In addition to her all-around victory, Sloanhoffer won beam outright with a season-best 9.875 mark. She also tied teammate Erica Smith for second place on bars with a career-high 9.85. Sloanhoffer completed her night with a 9.75 mark on floor and a team-best 9.675 vault score.
After seven meets, Sloanhoffer ranks No. 31 nationally in the all-around with a 39.121 season average; she has held the EAGL’s No. 1 rank all year.
Sloanhoffer owns six 39.0-plus career scores, all attained this season, and ranks 12th on the WVU all-time career chart. Additionally, she has four all-around victories to her name.
NC State senior Brooke Barr was named the EAGL Specialist of the Week, while Pitt freshman Haley Sedgewick earned the Rookie of the Week honor.
The Mountaineers stay on the road and close out the EAGL portion of their schedule at New Hampshire this Saturday, Feb. 25, with a 7 p.m. dual meet inside Lundholm Gymnasium, in Durham, N.H.
