PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The WVU men and women’s swimming and diving teams will return 14 after today’s preliminary events. The events included the 500 free, the 200 IM and the 50 free.
Rachael Burnett, Mandie Nugent and Kata Fodor will return as the top three seeds in the 500 free finals for the Mountaineers. Burnett cruised to the top seed with a time of 4:42.49, followed by Nugent seeded second (4:45.05) and Fodor third (4:45.57). Danielle Smith finished tenth in the event and will swim in the consolation finals.
Four will compete in the 500 free consolation finals for the men. Hugh Simmonds holds the No. 10 seed (4:27.71), Daeton Davenport No. 11 (4:28.07), Jake Quercaigrossa No. 13 (4:29.15) and Eric Johnson No. 16 (4:30.96).
In the 200 IM, Breanna McCann had a strong performance that landed her the No. 5 seed in the finals with a time of 2:01.47. Brandon Carr will swim in the consolation finals and is seeded fourth (1:49.48).
Tim squires swam to the No. 5 seed (20.06.) in the 50 free and Taylor Camp grabbed the No. 7 seed (20.17). Brad Eichenseer is seeded tenth in the consolation finals with a time of 20.35. Tiera Butkus and Eva Burlingham will compete in the 50 free consolation finals. Butkus and Burlingham both swam a 23.56 and are seed fourteenth.
Tonight’s finals will begin at 6 p.m., and will also include the 200 free relays.
