MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Bry McCarthy will participate in a year-end training and assessment camp with the Canadian Women’s National Team on Dec. 12-20, in Vancouver, B.C.
McCarthy, a senior outside back, is one of 27 players on the nine-day camp roster for coach John Herdman. Canada is coming off a bronze medal effort at the London 2012 Olympic games.
“The camp will have our Olympians, as well as some new players looking to stake a claim to be part of our four-year plan towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 and Rio 2016 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament,” said Herdman in a released statement from the Canadian Soccer Association. “The camp will provide baseline testing, as well as serve as an identification camp as we launch our new quadrennial cycle in 2013.”
McCarthy, a third team NSCAA All-American for the Mountaineers this season, is one of six returning national players that have previously competed in Canadian “A” camps. She became the first WVU defender to win a major conference award with her 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honor.
