MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Big 12 Conference has named WVU freshman women’s soccer player Amanda Hill its Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
Hill notched her second career goal in the 73rd minute to break a scoreless tie in a league victory over Oklahoma last week. The game-winner, which led to WVU's first Big 12 Conference title, was the first of Hill's career.
The Washington, Pa., native also helped the defense pick up its seventh shutout of the year and limited the Sooners to five shots on the night - eight below their season average. The WVU defense held OU to only one shot on-goal the final 64 minutes of the game.
Hill, who played all 90 minutes in the final home match, yesterday was named WVU's Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.
A WVU women’s soccer player has earned Big 12 weekly recognition in six of the 10 weeks this season.
