MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Looking to qualify additional athletes for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, the West Virginia track and field team was successful Friday evening at the Penn State National in State College, Pa.
Redshirt sophomore Chené Townsend became the ninth Mountaineer of the indoor season to qualify for the league championships by finishing the 60-meter hurdles in 8.58 seconds, easily clearing the 9.02 qualifying mark. She accomplished the feat in heat two of the preliminaries as her time was second-best in the heat and 10th place for the round. The Kingston, Jamaica, native earned an 8.60-second mark in the semifinals round of the event, good for 12th place in the round, but did not advance to the finals round.
The distance medley relay foursome of Alex Klauke, Jenna Barreto, Josie Crouch and Stephanie Caruso put on a solid performance for the event as they finished in sixth place overall with a combined time of 12:16.63.
Throwers Heather Adams, Terina Miller and Alanna Pritts competed in the 20-pound weight throw Friday evening with Adams leading the way in eighth place with a distance of 16.38 meters.
