MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Erica Henderson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft Friday afternoon by the Western New York Flash.
Henderson is the sixth Mountaineer to be drafted professionally. Former Mountaineers Katie Barnes and Rachel Kruze played in the WUSA (2001-03) while Greer Barnes, Lisa Stoia and Carolyn Blank played in the WPS.
A Rochester, N.Y., native, Henderson appeared in 88 matches for the Mountaineers, scoring 22 career points on 10 goals and two assists. The center back helped West Virginia defenses record 38 shutouts in the last three seasons, including a school-record 14 shutouts in 2010.
Henderson, an NSCAA second team all-Northeast region selection, helped the Mountaineers record 59 wins in the last four seasons. A four-time NCAA tournament participant, Henderson guided WVU to a pair of BIG EAST division titles and back-to-back BIG EAST Championships (2010, 2011).
