Several activities are planned during Saturday’s Norfolk State football game in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Former West Virginia University quarterback Chris Gray was among those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center that morning.
Here is a rundown of the activities taking place this Saturday …
- Flyover supported by the West Virginia Air National Guard (130th out of Charleston)
- Recognition of the Gathering of Mountain Eagles wounded veterans group during the pregame coin toss
- Chris Gray will be recognized as the game’s honorary captain. His brother Tim will be on the field to represent Chris
- A moment of silence at the end of the first quarter followed by the playing of God Bless America by The Pride of West Virginia. Lyrics will scroll on the ribbon board for fans to sing along.
- On-field recognition of West Virginia University veterans and soldiers presently on campus as students and faculty members
- On-field recognition of our local first responders, law enforcement officers, and EMS workers
