Football: WVU Now 19th in AP Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia jumped five spots to No. 19 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 football poll, revealed earlier today.
The Mountaineers started the season at No. 24 before defeating Marshall 34-13 in Sunday’s season opener in Morgantown. WVU also cracked the USA Today Top 25 coaches’ poll at No. 24. This is WVU’s first appearance in that poll this season.
South Florida is the only other Big East team in the rankings, joining West Virginia this week in the AP poll at No. 22. USF upset Notre Dame in South Bend last Saturday.
Pitt is the only other Big East team receiving votes in the AP poll.
USF picked up 97 votes in the coaches’ poll placing the Bulls two spots outside the Top 25.
In conference action this week, Louisville will play host to Florida International on Friday night (ESPN). Saturday’s action includes Rutgers at North Carolina (ACC Network), Maine at Pitt (ESPN3.com), Norfolk State at West Virginia (Big East Network), Cincinnati at Tennessee (ESPN2), Rhode Island at Syracuse (Big East Network), Ball State at USF (Big East Network) and Connecticut at Vanderbilt (CSS).
The Big East was 8-0 in non-conference action last week.
