Football: BIG EAST Award Winners

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Junior wide receiver Tavon Austin has been named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week and junior quarterback Geno Smith has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll for their performances against Marshall on Sunday.

Austin broke open the 34-13 win with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that gave the Mountaineers the lead late in the third quarter. He finished the game with 190 all-purpose yards, with 119 yards against the Thundering Herd on two kickoff returns and 46 yards on three punt returns.

Smith completed 26 of 35 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

This week, the Mountaineers (1-0) host Norfolk State (1-0) at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 10. at 1 p.m., ET. The game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network.
