Men's Soccer: WVU Travels to Cincinnati

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia men’s soccer team will continue its BIG EAST portion of the season with a match at Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers are coming off a tough 2-0 loss at James Madison last Wednesday night that saw the WVU defense hold the Dukes to just two shots. Previously, WVU fell to USF 2-1 last Sunday in its BIG EAST opener.
WVU has outshot its opponents 41-37, as well as almost doubling opponents on corner kicks taken at 62-34.
Freshman Andy Bevin continues to lead WVU offensively with five goals and two assists, while midfielder Shadow Sebele has scored three goals.
Cincinnati (3-5-1) also was in action last Wednesday, tying Xavier 1-1 in double overtime. Cincinnati fell to Providence 2-0 in its BIG EAST opener last weekend.
The Bearcats have outscored opponents 13-11, including 10 second-half goals.
Cole DeNormandie leads the team offensively with five goals on 15 shots, including two game-winning goals. Leon Powell has scored two goals with six players scoring one goal each. Shamar Shelton leads the team in assists with three.
Joey Bernard has started all nine games in net, allowing 11 goals and making 35 saves. Bernard has one shutout and a 3-5-1 record in 2011.
