MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 25 West Virginia women’s soccer team plays host to Marshall on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. with free admission courtesy of United Bank.
“We haven’t played Marshall in a few years but it’s good to get compete against an in-state program,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “I know the crowd will be fired up for the football game earlier in the day. Hopefully, many of them will head over to Dick Dlesk to cheer on our women’s soccer team.”
West Virginia’s Drea Barklage and Mallory Smith lead the team in points with three each. Seven different Mountaineers have scored goals this season, while the defense has posted two shutouts.
The Mountaineers are 3-0 all-time against Marshall, including a 4-0 victory last time out in 2000 at the Mountaineer Soccer Complex.
Kevin Long is in his fourth year at Marshall, 12th season overall as a head coach. He guided the Herd to their first appearance in Conference USA tournament history last fall.
Marshall is coming off a 1-0 loss to Ohio on Sept. 2, despite outshooting the Bobcats, 13-7.
