Rifle: Zublasing Takes Fourth at World Cup Final

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia junior Petra Zublasing finished fourth in the women’s 10m air rifle at the 2011 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final, yesterday, in Wroclaw, Poland.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) air rifle All-American sat in third place after the qualification round with a score of 397 (100-98-99-100). She shot 102.6 in the finals for a fourth-place total score of 499.6.
Zublasing’s finish caps off a strong summer on the World Cup circuit. The Appiano, Italy, native won the Bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle and earned an Olympic quota at the ISSF Fort Benning World Cup; she also finished 12th in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position. Additionally, Zublasing placed 10th in the women’s 10m air rifle and 12th in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position at the Munich World Cup.
Four-time NRA All-American and former Mountaineer Nicco Campriani also shot at the championships and placed second in the men’s 50m rifle 3 position and the men’s 10m air rifle.
Campriani improved upon his qualification finish in the 3 position competition, as he was in third place after the relay with a score of 1174 (392 prone, 390 standing, 392 kneeling). His finals score of 100.6 pushed his combined total to 1274.6 and moved him into second place.
Campriani won the Silver medal in air rifle on the strength of his 598 (100-100-100-100-99-99) qualification score; he shot 103.4 in the finals for a total of 701.4.
Zublasing and the Mountaineers open the 2011-12 WVU season in Lincoln, Neb., on Oct. 15 against Air Force. The team will face Nebraska on Oct. 16.
