MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., winner of NBC’s 2011 America’s Got Talent, will perform the National Anthem on Saturday, Sept. 24, prior to the WVU-LSU football game, set for 8 p.m. at Milan Puskar Stadium.
“We are excited to host a West Virginia native that has achieved such national prominence, and we’re happy that he will be singing at Milan Puskar Stadium this Saturday,” says WVU sports marketing director Matt Wells.
Murphy’s appearance adds to a long list of celebrations and activities that surround this weekend’s football contest. WVU will honor former All-American linebacker Darryl Talley during the first quarter of the game on Saturday for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in December in New York. He will be the 12th Mountaineer to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Prior to the game, ESPN’s Gollege GameDay Show will broadcast live from the WVU Mountainlair Plaza. Shows will begin taping for various ESPN Networks on Friday, Sept. 23, at 8 a.m., and will run through the afternoon. ESPNU will broadcast the show on Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m., while ESPN’s main portion will follow from 10 a.m. – noon.
This weekend marks the first time ESPN’s popular traveling college football show has selected WVU. The undefeated No. 16/16 Mountaineers will take on undefeated No. 2/3 LSU on Saturday in a nationally televised primetime telecast that will air on ABC (Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit) and will kick off at 8 p.m.
WVU defeated Maryland 37-31 last Saturday to run its record to 3-0, while LSU topped Mississippi State 19-6 last Thursday to also improve to 3-0.
