MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia senior Drea Barklage has been named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week after leading the Mountaineers to a pair of BIG EAST Conference victories last week.
Barklage logged all 194 minutes at center back in a 2-0-0 conference opening weekend. She scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minute to extend the match at USF, leading to a Blake Miller goal and 2-1 double overtime win. Against No. 8 Marquette, Barklage helped WVU limit the Golden Eagles to nine shots, nine below their season average, and only four shots on-goal.
The St. Louis native is the first Mountaineer this season to earn a Soccer America weekly award. She was also named the conference defensive player of the week.
West Virginia resumes BIG EAST play with a home match against Seton Hall on Friday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m.
