MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia jumps two spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 football poll to 16th, and four spots from 20th to 16th in the USA Today coaches’ poll, both released on Sunday.
The Mountaineers under first-year coach Dana Holgorsen improved to 3-0 with a 37-31 victory at Maryland on Saturday. LSU, this weekend’s opponent, is ranked No. 2 in this week’s AP poll and No. 3 in the coaches’ poll following last Thursday night’s 19-6 win at Mississippi State.
The Tigers opened the season with a 40-27 victory over Oregon and also show a 49-3 win over Northwestern State.
Last year, LSU defeated West Virginia 20-14 at Tiger Stadium.
The last time the Mountaineers played host to a Top 5 team at Milan Puskar Stadium came in 2003 when WVU topped third-ranked Virginia Tech 28-7. The Hokies remain the highest ranked team West Virginia has ever defeated on the gridiron.
Saturday’s game will kick off at 8 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC.
