MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia junior Petra Zublasing is set to compete at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final, with the delegations slated to arrive today in Wroclaw, Poland.
Zublasing, a National Rifle Association (NRA) first team All-American, will shoot for the Italian National Team. Reigning NCAA air rifle champion Nicco Campriani, a four-time NRA first team All-American while competing for WVU, also will shoot for Italy.
“Only the top shooters in the world get a chance to compete at the ISSF World Cup Final match, so this is a great opportunity for Petra and Nicco, and the invitation to compete highlights the fantastic summer they each had,” says Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond. “This match gives them another chance to compete with the best shooters in the world, and I’m sure they will represent themselves and WVU very well.”
Zublasing had a strong summer on the ISSF World Cup circuit, winning the Bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle at the Fort Benning World Cup. The Appiano, Italy, native earned an Olympic quota with the finish. She also placed 12th in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position. Following that performance, Zublasing finished 10th in the women’s 10m air rifle and 12th in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position at the Munich World Cup.
Most recently, Zublasing won the women’s 10m air rifle Gold medal at the 2011 World University Games, in Shenzhen, China.
Competition opens on Tuesday, Sept. 20, with the closing ceremony scheduled for Sept. 23.
