MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Women’s soccer senior Meghan Lewis has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Mountaineers to a pair of victories last week, the conference announced today.
The Naperville, Ill., native logged all 180 minutes at outside back in helping the defense post back-to-back shutouts – its third and fourth of the season. The Mountaineer defense held Marshall and High Point to only two shots on-goal each.
Against Marshall, Lewis scored her first goal of the season and fifth of her career in the victory. Her efforts also led to a 1-0 lead as her shot was mis-cleared earlier in the game in leading to an own-goal.
Yesterday, Lewis and the defense held all-Big South forward Kelli Joline without a shot. WVU allowed only one corner kick in a three hour, 37 minute match against High Point.
Lewis joins Sara Keane (Aug. 22) as Mountaineers to earn conference weekly awards this season.
