MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team opens preseason camp Wednesday morning, Aug. 3, at Dreamswork Field.
“The team is excited to get back out on the field after a long summer break,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “It’s important to focus and build off each workout throughout the preseason. We have a lot to accomplish in a short amount of time as our first exhibition is just one week from tomorrow.”
The Mountaineers begin camp with on-field training twice a day, strength and conditioning workouts and individual and team meetings. West Virginia will continue its preparation leading up to the regular-season opener at Virginia on Friday, Aug. 19.
WVU will take part in two exhibition contests this fall. The Mountaineers travel to Maryland for a 6 p.m. match on Aug. 10. WVU plays host to Central Michigan at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in a final tune-up at 5 p.m. on Aug. 13.
West Virginia returns eight starters, including five all-BIG EAST performers for 2011. Izzo-Brown begins her 16th season in charge of the Mountaineers and has led her teams to 11 straight NCAA tournament appearances.
