Volleyball: Gold-Blue Game Sunday

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team will begin its 2011 season on Sunday, August 21, with a Gold-Blue intrasquad scrimmage at the WVU Coliseum that is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
“For the coaching staff, the Gold/Blue scrimmage gives us a chance to work through some lineups in a game day situation,” coach Jill Kramer says. “For our players, it simulates a game day situation so the girls know what to expect the rhythm of their day to feel like. We will play five sets, which will give us a chance to work through some continuity with our lineups. It gives the newcomers a feel for what it is like in the Coliseum on a game day with the fans and video boards and music going.”
The Mountaineers return nine letterwinners from the 2010 squad that finished 15-15 (5-9 BIG EAST) and was one win short of qualifying for the BIG EAST Tournament.
WVU’s season is set to officially begin on Aug. 26-28 with the WVU Volleyball Mountaineer Invitational. The Mountaineers will play host to New Hampshire, Valparaiso, Ohio State, Towson and Robert Morris at the Coliseum. The team’s first match is against New Hampshire on Friday at 1 p.m.
Admission is free this Sunday and open to the public. There will be an autograph session with the team after the scrimmage.
