Men's Soccer: WVU Picked to Finish Third

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team has been chosen to finish third in the Blue Division of the BIG EAST Conference, receiving 89 points and earning three first place votes, conference officials announced on Wednesday.
Connecticut was picked to finish first in the division, receiving 10 first place votes from the 16 conference coaches, while Notre Dame comes in second and received two votes. Georgetown was picked to finish fourth and earned one vote.
Louisville, the runner-up of the 2010 National Championship, was picked to win the Red Division with 15 first place votes, while USF was picked second in the division and received one vote.
For the second-consecutive season senior defender Raymon Gaddis was selected to the all-conference preseason team. Gaddis was a second team all-BIG EAST selection in 2010.
The 2011 men’s soccer season begins on Aug. 26, with the ACC/BIG EAST Challenge, while BIG EAST play starts on Sept. 25.
The 2011 BIG EAST men's soccer championship is a 12-team single-elimination tournament. The top six teams in each division, seeded by conference point total, qualify for the conference championship. First round games will be held at campus sites on Nov. 2, with the quarterfinals following on Nov. 5.
For the second-straight year, Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. will serve as host for the semifinals (Nov. 11) and championship (Nov. 13). Updated ticket and television information can be found on bigeastsoccer.com as well as on Championship Central at bigeast.org. The tournament champion receives the league’s automatic berth into the 48-team NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
