IT'S THE EAGLES FOR DEVINE
July 26, 2011 10:22 PM | General
In the end, it’s the Philadelphia Eagles for West Virginia University’s all-time leading all-purpose runner. Yesterday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Noel Devine was likely to sign a free agent rookie contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
Today, Devine instead chose to sign with the Eagles where he will be reunited with former Mountaineer teammate Owen Schmitt. The two helped WVU to an 11-2 record and a victory over Oklahoma in the 2008 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Devine will report to Lehigh University on Wednesday for training camp.
Meanwhile, former Mountaineer receiver Jock Sanders has signed a rookie free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, completing a day that also saw linebacker Anthony Leonard sign with the New England Patriots and safety Sidney Glover reportedly signing with the Buffalo Bills, although the club has yet to officially announce its rookie free agent signings.
Today’s signings give West Virginia eight players from last year’s teams headed to NFL training camps this summer. Cornerback Brandon Hogan (Panthers), safety Robert Sands (Bengals), linebacker JT Thomas (Bears) and defensive tackle Chris Neild (Redskins) were taken in last spring’s NFL draft.
