LINDAMOOD HARD AT WORK

Matt Lindamood buys into the work smarter approach. The junior “B” back says summer workouts have been intense and efficient so far.
“We’re not just going in there and doing it,” he said last week. “We had a great summer last year, but I think this year we have more focus on guys getting in here and getting their work in so we don’t have to stay here a long time. We just have to be efficient in our work.”
Each summer it seems like the players say this is the hardest they have ever worked. Lindamood truly believes that to be the case this summer.
“It’s definitely harder,” he admitted. “(Strength and conditioning coach Mike Joseph) likes to up it every year. If we keep it the same then we’re going to settle with the same record we had last year so we’ve got to get better and better every summer.”
Lindamood caught the attention of the new coaching staff with his tough running, blocking skills and an ability to catch the football coming out of the backfield last spring. In fact, the Parkersburg native heads into this fall No. 1 among “B” backs (fullbacks).
Now Lindamood is one of those guys now being counted on to be a leader this year.
“I had my exit interview with Coach (Dana) Holgorsen and I talked to Coach (Robert) Gillespie when I got back and he was like, ‘We need to get all of the running backs in there, we need to be the toughest group on the team and we can’t have people not showing up,’” said Lindamood. “We have to be the most disciplined group and get in here and do the work. Once everybody sees that then it will translate to all of the other groups.”
Lindamood is taking that message to heart.
“Being a leader comes with a lot of responsibility,” he said. “It’s about being on time. It’s about being disciplined; calling your teammates and making sure they are showing up and helping them out if they need anything.”
Lindamood says he has a pretty good feel for Holgorsen’s new offensive system because it’s easy to learn. He will also have more time to browse through his playbook this summer with a much lighter class load than last spring when he was first learning the offense.
“I only have one class so getting back into the playbook it’s a simpler now than it was during the spring,” he said.
