Baseball: Two Earn all-BIG EAST Honors

CLEARWATER, Fla. – West Virginia University redshirt seniors Jeremy Gum and Grant Buckner were each awarded all-BIG EAST honors on Tuesday evening at the annual conference awards ceremony at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.
A native of Bridgeport, W.Va., Gum was first team all-BIG EAST honor for his role in the designated hitter position. Gum finished the regular season with a .343 batting average in 51 games. Gum has scored 32 runs on 58 hits with a team-leading 15 doubles. Gum also has one triple, four home runs and 38 RBIs, while also setting the school record with 23 hit by pitches this season.
Buckner, an Elkview, W.Va., native, earned third-team honors at the shortstop position and led the team with a .368 batting average. Buckner led the team in runs (48), hits (74), home runs (8) and RBIs (46), while recording 14 doubles and one triple. In BIG EAST play, Buckner led the conference with a batting average of .437, an on-base percentage of .512 and in hits with 45.
