Wrestling: Morales Receives AWN Honor

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – As a starter for the Mountaineer wrestling team at 141 pounds, true freshman Michael Morales was named to the Amateur Wrestling News’ all-Rookie Team for his achievements during the 2010-11 season.
With an 18-11record and third-place finish at the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships, Morales proved to be one of the most consistent grapplers over the course of the year. Having a 7-3 mark in EWL play and a 9-6 dual meet record, the Brick, N.J., native had the fifth-best mark on the team for number of wins (18) and third-best rank for major decision victories (6).
Morales outscored his opponents in dual meets by a 39-24 margin and had two wins over Big Ten opponents: John Deneen of Illinois and Michigan State’s Joel Trombly. Healso took fifth place at the Washington & Jefferson College Open.
