Track and Field: WVU Enters Top 20

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After an excellent showing at the BIG EAST Championships last weekend, the West Virginia University track and field team entered this week’s Top 20 rankings at No. 19, announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Mountaineers made the largest jump in the country, moving up 19 spots from No. 46. LSU is No. 1 in the poll, followed by Texas A&M, Clemson, Southern California and Oregon rounding out the top five.
West Virginia finished the conference championships with a school-best second-place finish as five individual titles were won.
Senior Chelsea Carrier led the team, earning three titles (long jump, 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles) on her way to being named as the meet’s Most Outstanding Track Performer.
Senior April Rotilio also had a good weekend, winning the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 52.71 which ties her for the ninth best time in the country this season.
Senior Kate Harrison won the first BIG EAST title of her career with a first-place showing in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:59.84.
The Mountaineers will now prepare for the NCAA Regionals with a trip to the Gator Invitational on May 14 and the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on May 16.
