MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will travel to Hartford, Conn., on April 9-10 for two 10 a.m. matches against BIG EAST opponents UCONN and Marquette.
The Mountaineers’ overall record fell to 7-11 and 3-4 in the BIG EAST, after falling to Rutgers in a 1-6 match on Sunday, at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
“Despite some losses, I am really pleased with the effort that the girls have been putting in,” says coach Tina Samara. “If we continue on this path and keep getting better against these BIG EAST schools, we’re hoping to peak at the conference tournament.”
In WVU’s meeting with UCONN last season, the Mountaineers defeated the Huskies, 6-1, after capturing the doubles point and winning five of the six matches in singles.
WVU will face Marquette for the first time since 2000, after the Golden Eagles swept the match with a 9-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
These BIG EAST matches will be the last two matches of the regular season, before WVU heads to Notre Dame to compete at the 2011 BIG EAST Championships.
