STEW EYEING SATURDAY SCRIMMAGE
April 13, 2011 01:00 PM | General
West Virginia has not tackled much so far this spring but that’s going to change this weekend. The Mountaineers will conduct the first of their three full-scale scrimmages of the spring this Saturday and coach Bill Stewart will be interested to see how his team performs.
“We’ll sit down as a staff and talk about what we want to see and how much we want to do,” he said after today’s practice. “Do we want to be a jack of all trades and a master of none? Or do we want to master some things? We’ve exposed these guys to a lot. This is the seventh practice.”
Stewart said he wants to see good execution while also making sure personnel on both sides of the ball get on and off the field in a timely manner.
“We are going to have officials here and we’re going to have a 25-second clock,” he said. “Those are the intangibles that are so hard to do during a regular practice because we need to get reps and teach on film.”
Stewart also wants to continue to see passes down the field.
“I keep telling Dana (Holgorsen) that I love deep balls and he said we are going to keep seeing them and that’s what we’re trying to work on,” Stewart said. “We need to move the chains and hopefully there will be success on both sides. As the head coach, I want to see the blue shirts (defense) do well also.”
The scrimmage is open to the media but closed to the general public. We will have stats and a scrimmage recap Saturday afternoon.
