MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women’s soccer team will play host to its annual 4-versus-4 tournament Sunday, March 6, to raise funds for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. Teams will compete in the “Three’s a Team…the Fourth’s a Mountaineer” all-day event at the Caperton Indoor Facility.
The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight, with an open division for college-age and older groups. The team has raised more than $60,000 over the past seven years to help fight breast cancer.
“Everyone in our program looks forward to this annual event,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We have participants that come from all across the state, and of all ages, helping to raise awareness and fight breast cancer.”
The small-sided tournament is the first of two weekends in conjunction with the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational. On April 16, WVU will play Tennessee and Ohio in the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
All of the money raised this spring goes directly to the Betty Puskar Breast Cancer Fund at WVU’s Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. Funds are used to support diagnosis and treatment efforts and to provide opportunities to help patients and their families in the midst of battling breast cancer.
Admission is free and open to the public for all home spring women’s soccer contests.
