MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University will honor former wrestler and WVU graduate Mike Wojcik as honorary captain for tonight’s wrestling meet against No. 20 Edinboro at 7:30 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
Wojcik suffered a near-fatal ATV accident, resulting in broken ribs, collapsed lungs, a broken clavicle and facial fractures – ultimately leading to a being in a coma for 47 days. With the support of his family, he continues rehabilitation for his once life-threatening situation in his hometown of Old Bridge, N.J.
A two-year member of the WVU wrestling team from 2005-07, Wojcik graduated in May of 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He landed his first job at a middle school in his hometown as a physical education teacher prior to his accident.
Wojcik will accompany the WVU captains to center mat for the pre-match coin-flip. He will also be with the Mountaineers in the locker room before and after the match and on the sidelines during the contest.
