MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU senior Marie-Louise Asselin was named one of 16 student-athletes - one from each BIG EAST institution - that have been awarded $2,000 scholarships as the winners of the 2010-11 American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete Awards. The selections were made by the conference's Academic Affairs Committee.
Asselin is one of WVU’s most decorated student-athletes, with seven All-America honors. In 2009-10, the Sarnia, Ontario, native became one of the first Mountaineers to earn the honor in three different seasons (cross country, indoor track and outdoor track).
Asselin finished her cross country career finishing in 31st place (20:43); marking the third-straight year she earned All-America honors. She then became NCAA runner-up in both the indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter runs in 2010.
The exercise physiology major was also named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSida Academic All-American first team in 2010, as well as to the all-academic team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is one of a number of scholarships presented by the BIG EAST Conference and American Eagle Outfitters during the 2010-11 academic year. Thirty-two student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST's 16 member institutions) are named winners of the American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships.
