Football: Saturday Practice Report

MIAMI - West Virginia football Coach Dana Holgorsen on today’s practice:
“Practice went fine today. We consider this our Tuesday practice so we were getting into our normal routine for the game week. The weather has been outstanding and I can see that our players are getting excited for game day.
“The player’s focus has been good, and they have been working hard. We are down here to win a football game, and I think our mix of preparation and fun has been good.”
WVU Practice notes from Dec. 31:
- West Virginia practiced today for one hour and 45 minutes at Barry University.
- The Mountaineers will participate in the Orange Bowl Family Beach Party this afternoon from 2-6 p.m. at the Fontainebleau Hotel.
- Former Mountaineers who were visiting at practice today were Grantis Bell (WR, 1985-88), Johnny Dingle (DL, 2005-07), Dale Williams (OL, 1991-93) and James “Puppy” Wright (LB, 1991-94).
- Also in attendance at today’s practice was former Miami Football Coach Randy Shannon and Florida Atlantic assistant coach Kurt VanValkenburgh.
- Holgorsen has named the captains for the 2012 Discover Orange Bowl: Najee Goode (LB), Joe Madsen (OL), Geno Smith (QB) and Keith Tandy (DB).
- With the injury to Dustin Garrison, attending the West Virginia Discover Orange Bowl Offensive Press Conference will now be Shawne Alston (RB), Tavon Austin (WR), Stedman Bailey (WR), Don Barclay (OL), Geno Smith (QB) and Joe Madsen (OL). Coach Shannon Dawson will represent the offensive coaching staff.
